From the Principal
That’s it – that’s a wrap for 2024!
Today is our last day with students, tomorrow our last day for the year. We have had a huge year, with the build underway and have thrown a good few changes in place as well. We could not be prouder of what our school has accomplished in 2024. Some highlights (not all) are…
EAGLES Holiday Bingo
In your end of year pack, you would have received an EAGLES Holiday Bingo Sheet – a different sheet for every year level. Have fun trying to complete some or all of the 42 suggestions (one a day for 6 weeks of holidays) for each year level. There should be some that every parent might like on there… “tidying your room… eating a new food” and take the time to talk about what the task is and how it might relate to the individual Cambridge Capability.
The purpose of the Bingo Cards is for the language and approach to be used at home over the holidays, for our families to explore all the capabilities by themselves without our school staff about. We know that some language might be harder for younger children, but we also know that when you live in and with something, you learn it too. For example, most children learn colours and shapes, not from school, but from living and talking about them at home. Our Bingo Game is not designed to be a stress point, but an enjoyable thing to do over the break. If you don’t do it – that doesn’t matter.
For those who do, we’ll have a few prize draws at the start of next year and celebrate the process! We hope you enjoy it and thanks to those families who have provided us with positive feedback already.
Our EAGLES
It has taken us three years to get those Bingo Sheets to you! It was 2022 initial brainstorming, 2023 more developing and organising and 2024 finishing off and producing resources to organise, communicate and share. I can not be prouder of our community in the work that we have all done to bring this together. There are not many schools in the country who have been able so successfully to create and then incorporate a framework for dispositional learning and development. Everyone wants one but pulling it all together is another thing.
What we have in EAGLES, is something that everyone should be immensely proud of. Our staff work tireless to continually incorporate the language and celebration of EAGLES and with the two resources we send home with you, you have the same definitions and language and icons that we use.
Our Logo
For a long time, there had been gentle unrest with a few groups in our community with whether the old plane logo represented who we had become. On the back of our EAGLES consultation, it was clear that a time had come for a broader discussion and exploration. Over a six month period, we consulted heavily, especially with our students and the taste for change was there. Unsurprisingly, a nod to an animal was included – students love animals. Also clear, was our physical place in the world, with the hill and the creek included. What was surprising, was how much people wanted green in the logo! Standing on the top floor of our new build, it is clear why green is connected to our school. We are so very fortunate to have the bush and the hills and our setting.
Our logo has been met with a lot of positive feedback. We are really proud of the mature and passionate approach we took to develop it and look forward to incorporating changes over the next little while as we redevelop all of our communications.
Our Uniform
With the new logo, came the chance for a refreshed uniform. I was adamant from the outset that we shouldn’t change colours – we didn’t want to increase costs too much. The one problem was how clear everyone was that green should be included. If you are going to consult, you need to listen to the outcome! So, with much trepidation, we included bands of green into new items. We are pleased to report that we have had only positive feedback. We are very proud of the work we have done with our uniform.
We know that there will be teething issues to get the right uniform options to us in the right way for the start of the year. We are well progressed on this. We are in constant contact with our supplier and will be in contact with you all when our uniform arrives in the new year.
We are so excited to have a fresh new uniform that is both contemporary in look and timeless in wear. It will be great to slowly have the uniform throughout the entire school over time. A reminder, there is no rush to get the new uniform, you can still wear the old uniform for 2025 in full and we will always phase in new and out old items.
Redevelopment Update
We are fully moved into our New Build! All of our students have had a tour through, and when the main building renovation is complete in Term 2, we will have an open day for tours.
Our builders, VOS have really put the foot down over the past two weeks in demolishing the old 3-4 rooms (Rooms 8 and 9) and now working on the old 4-5 rooms, which will be our new (it once was) library. There has been a lot of work completed, and steel work has gone in around the canteen and rooms 8 and 9 to connect the new roofs. The builders are still on track for an early February completion on the canteen and the staffroom – which will be very impressive.
We are looking to a Term 2 completion for the four rooms and the library. Where possible, we may receive some spaces back sooner than others, for example, sensory rooms, staff offices, adult toilets and canteen.
It has been very hectic around here with the movement of things and people, but the busyness right now will be worth it for a calm start to the year.
2-3’s will be in some temporary places to start the year. Preps and 1-2’s and 2-3s will move in the New Year after the build is complete.
Enjoy your last few days of 2024, see most of you in 2025!
Courtney.

Double your Dollars Markets
A huge thank you to families who supported the Double your Dollars Markets earlier this month. The Gr5s and Gr6s, their teachers and TA’s put in a massive effort to run this great enterprise. As always, both markets were huge successes, and the amount raised was an amazing $2103.79. Frank and Isaiah raised the most money with their painted pet rock stalls and they chose to donate the total raised to Archies 100 – a fundraising initiative to raise money for equipment, research and patient care at the RHH Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Champions Carnival 2024
On Tuesday 26 November, Cambridge students participated in the last sporting carnival of the year. Twenty Cambridge students from Year 3 to Year 6 put in amazing efforts throughout the day. A major highlight was the Year 3 girls freestyles relay team winning their first ever Champions race (Ruby G, Poppy J, Maddison D and Mabel L) after initially being given second! Other relay highlights included ribbons won in the Year 4 boys freestyle (3rd – Raph J, Lincoln T, Ethan S and Elijah W) and the medley relay (Elijah W, Ethan S, James K-S and Louis C). Charlotte M, George M and Zach W had multiple top three finishes in finals and there were many other students who put in great individual performances and made it into the Champions finals. These performances were really outstanding given how tough it is just to qualify for a Champions carnival, let alone make a final. All the students who raced in the Champions carnival should be very proud of their efforts.

Congratulations to….
Congratulations to Griffyn S, Gr 3, and Fergus S, Gr 1, who competed again in the Tasmanian State Championships for GKR Karate and represented themselves and their dojo well by displaying grace, humility and strength of character. Griffyn walked away from the day with a silver medal in Kata (a preset series of moves that demonstrates his understanding of Karate) and Fergus won a gold medal and was crowned Tasmanian State Champion for Kumite (sparring). It's been wonderful to see them develop as devoted karate students over the last few years and build strength and confidence within the art.
Well done to Riley O in Gr 6 who has been selected as Goal Keeper for the u12 State Futsal Team with Futsal Tasmania, due to be played in Sydney in January 2025.
A big congratulations to Leroy S in Gr 3, for winning the Glebe Hill Village Halloween colouring-in champion! Leroy won an amazing prize valued at up to $100 for his fantastic artwork! Such a little artist.
Congratulations also to Lachie, Blair, James KS, Will, Archie, Elijah, Zac and Harry in Gr4/5 who were the winners of the Gr 3/4 Christmas Cup Soccer Tournament held at Sorell on the weekend of 30 Nov-1 Dec.
Well done to the grade 3/4 girls who recently competed in a term 4 competition against other local schools organised by the South East Suns. We had a great time. Our team had some girls new to netball who quickly discovered they loved it and some girls that were able to support them as they learnt. Everyone had a go at every position! Well done grade 3/4 girls.
Library
For at least term 1 2025, the Library will be in the new room 6, the old Literacy Rm/Rm 16. If you have Library books at home, there is no rush to return them until next February.
A huge thank you to Sophie Allen who has been our Scholastic Book Club organiser for many years. Through family support and the Book Club Reward Scheme our Library has benefitted greatly and has acquired many new titles.
