1 June 2023
From the Assistant Principal
Good bye Autumn, hello Winter!
Today, on our last day of Autumn, we have certainly experienced the full range of Tassie weather! Beautiful sun and mild temperatures to start our day, and rain and cool temperatures to end our day.
Last week students showed enormous amounts of perseverance, courage and accepting as they participated in the cross country. It was wonderful to see students trying their best, giving it a go, cheering their peers on and celebrating successes! It was really lovely to again welcome parents and family members onsite to support and cheer on their children. Thank you to Mr Thomas for facilitating a very well organised cross country after only being with us for a few weeks.
As Winter begins officially tomorrow, we are also experiencing more sickness in our community. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are symptom free and are feeling well. If your child becomes unwell at school, the admin team we will make contact with you to arrange for you to collect your child.
If you need RAT tests please contact the office and we can send some home with your child, or you can call in and collect some from the office.
Please read the section below from the Department for Education, Children and Young People (Decyp) entitled Winter Wellness.
Next week we welcome Rob Vingerhoets back to work with our staff. We are really looking forward to again working with him, and I strongly encourage you to attend the parent session if you can.
Ali Cato, Assistant Principal
Winter wellness
The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses.
Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Prepare
Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu. Make sure your child has received their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains. It will also help stop them getting very sick.
Plan
If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.
Protect
Protect others by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
For more information, read the [enclosed/attached] parent and carer factsheet or visit the Department of Health website.
Thanks for doing your part to keep our school community safe, healthy and learning.
Supporting Maths learning – A Parent Night with Rob Vingerhoets
Cambridge Primary is excited to welcome back renowned educational consultant, Rob Vingerhoets this coming week. Rob has been sharing his expertise in Maths education with the Cambridge community for a number of years and returns in 2023 to spend the week supporting teachers and to deliver an amazing parent night.
Maths and Numeracy continue to be cornerstones of lifelong success, but sadly it can often be an area of learning where students and parents might feel hesitant or ill equipped to take on challenges. At Cambridge we want everyone to feel confident, and even excited about taking on learning challenges in Math. Rob’s infectious enthusiasm for Mathematics and his practical hands on opportunities for teachers and parents, are always well received. After the amazing feedback from Rob’s last visit, we wanted to ensure that our parents had the chance to meet with Rob again.
This coming Tuesday 6 June, from 6.00pm until 7.30pm, Rob will be running a session for parents focussed on Maths and we would love to welcome as many parents as possible. If you are keen to join those who have already confirmed they are attending this free event.
RSVP to the office on 6248 5168 or email cambridge.primary@decyp.tas.gov.au.
